National Kick Butt Day Was Held Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

National Kick Butts Day, a time when young people get an opportunity to tell big tobacco companies to butt out of their lives.

Tobacco companies spend  more than $10 billion in marketing annually.

Many of these ads allegedly target younger audiences.

Events across the country were planned where young people spoke out against these practices. They also want to encourage elected officials to do more to protect people from starting to smoke.

"These products kill about four hundred thousand Americans every single year, so it's more important than ever that youths take a stand and educate their peers and also to tell these tobacco companies that they won't stand for it." Judy Hou, Anti-Tobacco Youth Advocate, said.

Tobacco use is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States.
