Good Heart Farmstead Destroyed by Fire - Community Donates $ To Support Local

WORCESTER, Vt. -

A Vermont couple's dreams burst into flames. Edge Fuentes Katie Spring always wanted to own a farm and they bought one just last fall.  But a few days ago, their barn burned to the ground.

I got an email last night about how the community has really rallied behind the couple... and their dream. So I went to the farm today and learned a lot more.

Life on the Good Heart Farmstead is a dream come true.

"This will be our first summer growing and selling veggies and raising animals," Fuentes said.

It's hard to imagine summer time with all of this fresh powder, but their recently purchased nine acres will be transformed.

"We'll grow anything that grows basically," Fuentes said.

Everything was on track; until a fire tore through their barn. Equipment, feed for the animals, dreams, all up in smoke.

"Flames licking up, 20, 40 feet in the air," Matt Wooliever said.

Just down the road, Fiddlehead Café owner Matt Wooliever saw the flames.

"Devastating, brand new farm," Wooliever said.

That's when they decided to get creative and go the fundraising route because the fire that ripped through the barn just about a week ago didn't have insurance, once they raise enough money, they plan to rebuild.

Already the crowdfunding site they're using, gofundme.com has earned $13,000.

"It's overwhelming in a good way," Fuentes said.

The goal is $20,000. Wooliever is one of many farmers, neighbors and complete strangers who have donated to the local venture.

"Really value that idea of community supported agriculture, so what they're doing is fantastic," Wooliever said.

Until they completely recover and rebuild, the plan is to make do with a newly built structure and support about 20 families with fresh food.
