RICHMOND, Vt. -

Two Brooklyn, N.Y. residents charged in Richmond, Vt. heroin distribution charges.

Police say on Monday a cooperating witness made a controlled purchase of heroin from 18-year-old Denzel Thomas.

Both Thomas and another defendant, Jermaine McGriff, 19, were in court Tuesday.

Authorities recovered about 850 bags of heroin and more than $3,000 from a room where Thomas was sleeping in the Richmond, Vt. home.

Police say residents at the home told them that Thomas, McGriff, and a third individual had been coming to Vermont about twice a month for the
previous five to six months to distribute heroin.

If convicted, McGriff and Thomas face up to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of up to $1,000,000.

Both defendants were released on conditions pending their next hearing in three weeks.
