VT Agency of Natural Resources Denies Moretown Landfill Re-Certification

Posted: Updated:
MORETOWN, Vt. -

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources has denied the Moretown Landfill re-certification based on obnoxious odors and prior groundwater contamination.

Agency of Natural Resources Secretary Deb Markowitz says although the Moretown Landfill was making improvements, their plan wasn't enough to convince them it would fix odor

The Moretown Landfill is currently under the management of Advance Disposal.

Advance Disposal General Manager Mike Dimaggio said back in January, the landfill was investing in fixing methane wells designed to eliminate odors and caps to cover landfill cells. He also said the landfill is no longer accepting out of state sludge.

The Moretown Landfill is one of two landfills in the state of Vermont.

FOX44 and ABC22 reporter David Hodges will have more details tonight on ABC22 at 6,7 and on FOX44 at 10 p.m.
