MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Lawmakers return to Montpelier Tuesday and have a busy week ahead.
Most bills must be voted out of committee by Friday, or they'll have to wait until next year.
Many of the bills up for debate are pinned to each committee room's cork board.
In order for both sides to have time to review each bill, a mid-session deadline it put into place.
But some say the "cross-over period" isn't enough time.
"We started a week later than usual, so we actually have a week less to do our work before cross-over. It doesn't seem like much, but in the grand scheme of things it provides an enormous amount of pressure," said Vermont State Rep. William Lippert.
One bill that Lippert says won't make it out of committee is the genetically modified food labeling bill.
FOX44/ABC22 told you Friday the house agriculture committee passed it out Friday, but Lippert says there is no time to properly review it in his committee.
"It's not a matter of any evaluation of the bill pro or con. There simply isn't the possibility in doing all of that in the next four day," said Lippert.
Just because a bill, including the GMO dies this year, lawmakers can always take it up again next year.
