LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -

In a new Siena College Poll, voters strongly support a minimum wage increase in New York.

The poll found more than three-quarters of voters support increasing the minimum wage in N.Y. to $9.00/hour. The number is slightly down from when the poll asked voters if the minimum wage should increased to $8.50 and $8.75 per hour.

Assemblyman Keith Wright (D) wants to make it $9/hour to be more competitive.

The Siena poll says 77% support the wage increase, 22% oppose, and 1% said they either had no opinion, didn't know, or didn't have enough information.

Currently New York's minimum wage stands at $7.25/hour, which is also the federal minimum. Right now 925,000 people make minimum wage in New York.
