Teen Arrested in Burlington on Drug Charges Due in Court

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The teenager arrested in Burlington Thursday on drug trafficking charges is due to be arraigned Friday.

Police say the 17-year-old's arrest is part of a much larger investigation. Two other people have been arrested in the last week on drug charges and police say they used the low-cost bus company ‘Megabus' to transport the drugs into the area.

Police say the bus fares, as low as $1-dollar, is extremely enticing to drug dealers.

The bus stops at the University of Vermont, however, none of the people arrested are students from the school.

School officials are concerned and are considering asking the bus service to find a new location.

Fox44 & ABC22 reached out to Megabus on Thursday for comment and did not get a response.

Friday morning they sent a statement that said, "Regrettably different types of transportation services (airlines, etc) can be exploited.   At megabus.com, we have zero tolerance of anyone attempting to carry drugs on our services. Megabus.com staff continue to be vigilant to spot suspicious activity and work closely with authorities to help them identify potential offenders."

So far this week, police have seized 1,400 bags of heroin, 1,000 oxycodone pills and 4.2 oz of crack cocaine. The street value is $70,000.
