PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

A man set himself on fire Wednesday night in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Police say they were called to a duplex trailer on Charles Way for a report of glass being broken. When police arrived and tried to talk to Daniel Burke, 60, of Plattsburgh, N.Y. he shut off the lights and lit himself on fire.

Officers then dragged Burke from the fire and extinguished him.

Police say neighbors were evacuated while the Plattsburgh Fire Department put out the fire.

Burke was transported to CVPH in Plattsburgh where he was initially treated for 1st and 2nd degree burns. He was then transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care where he was treated for 1st and 2nd degree burns to half his body.

A press release says two of the officers who responded were treated for smoke inhalation.

The trailer is being deemed a total loss. A neighboring trailer was also damaged by the extreme heat and flames.

Police say they arrested Burke earlier in Wednesday evening for DUI. He was released to a third party.

Burke was arrested on February 13 by Plattsburgh Police for 2nd degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. He is accused of soliciting a person less than 14 years of age for sexual contact. Police say Burke had been arraigned and was out on bail.
