ALBANY, N.Y. -

In New York State, lawmakers are fighting over minimum wage.

Two assembly men want to see it increase. Right now, it stands at $7.25/hour, which is also the federal minimum.

Assemblyman Keith Wright wants to make it $9/hour to be more competitive.

"We are here to put forth an agenda, a piece of legislation, that 80% of the people in the state of New York want and they feel that we need," New York Assemblyman Keith Wright (D) said.

Currently he says 925,000 people make minimum wage in New York.

New Hampshire's minimum wage is also the federal minimum at $7.25.

Vermont has one of the highest minimum wages in the country with a pay rate of $8.60/hour.
