SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
By a two-to-one margin, people in South Burlington chose a new direction for the city council.
In the two races, the challengers won easily over the incumbents.
For the city council three-year term seat, Chris Shaw had 2268 votes while Sandra Dooley had 1115. For the city council two-year term seat, Pat Nowak had 2243 votes while Paul Engels had 1124.
"The current council is being held accountable for some of its actions its had," says Shaw.
"I see a new direction for the council," says Nowak.
From the council's stance against F-35's coming to Vermont to new development rules, this city council had repeatedly found itself in controversy.
While Shaw and Nowak will be two voices on a five-member council, they say they're confident they can bring change to South Burlington.
"We want to reach out to the relationships that we've maybe fractured in the community," says Shaw.
"We can bring a new perspective and certainly start pulling things back together," says Nowak.
Both winners also say they want to have a big say with upcoming issues. Those include the final rewriting of development rules and picking a new city manager.
