Burlington Mardi Gras Preparations

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Thousands of people are expected to pack Burlington for Mardi Gras festivities Saturday.

On Friday, groups were getting their floats ready for the big parade.

The staff from Seven Days chose a "Year of the Snake" theme.  They've been working on it over the past couple weeks and this is now their 15th year in the parade.

Some of the staff gets to ride on the float Saturday.

"It's like I guess it's probably the closest thing you get to being a rock star for a few minutes. You got people cheering and waving at you and wanting your attention. You kind of throw the beads, make them try to grab them. It's fun," says Colby Roberts, Seven Days director of sales.

You can catch the Seven Days float and the others during the parade which starts at 3pm Saturday.

Now because of the parade there are road closures in Burlington, including Main Street which will remain closed for the duration of the parade.

Starting at noon: King Street -- between South Winooski and Church Street.

Starting at 2:00pm: South Winooski Ave. -- between Maple and Main Street -- and, King Street between Church and Union will close.

Starting at 2:30pm:  Main Street -- between South Winooski and Lake Street.  St. Paul Street -- between College and King Street.  Pine Street -- between College and King Street. And, South Champlain Street -- between College and King Street.
