ST. ALBANS, Vt. -

St. Albans Police say a woman threatened to shoot them after they wanted to check up on her children Wednesday.

While speaking to Sarah Purcell, 31, of St. Albans, Vt., police say, she seemed very intoxicated, upset and was home alone with her 3 children. When they arrived at her home to investigate, she refused to allow them inside and threatened to shoot them if they entered.

After negotiating with Purcell, she finally allowed the police inside. Police say the children were safe and they found several firearms within her reach.

Police arrested Purcell and charged her with disorderly conduct, child abuse and neglect.

Police say she was transported her to detox, where she refused to cooperate. She was then transported to Chittenden County Correctional Center.

Purcell was flash cited and is due in court on March 1.
