ST. ALBANS, Vt. -

Friends of Logan Newell came together to remember the 17-year-old at a candlelight vigil.

Newell was a student at BFA in St. Albans.  In just happens the school is on break and that left many students searching for a way to grieve together.

"Great kid. Really great kid," says Tanner Connolly.

Connolly says he was a longtime friend of Newell's.

"He was always smiling ear to ear, riding his car, driving around," says Connolly.

Besides his car, friends say Newell loved sports and volunteering with the Georgia Fire Department.

Many in the crowd were from BFA. Newell was a junior there.

"All around, all around good kid," says Jenna Kemp.

Kemp is a para-educator and helped organized the vigil.

"I got several emails, and Facebook messages and text messages and phone calls from students saying that they didn't know how to act. They couldn't sleep," says Kemp.

Besides bringing the community together, the event also offered people the chance buy stickers to raise money for Newell's family.

"The community is there for them. Tragic death had to happen. Such a young kid," says Connolly.

The funeral for Newell is set for Friday at the Georgia fire station.
