Food Assistance Programs Safe From Sequester Cuts

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Food assistance programs like 3SquaresVT are safe from the sequester.

When the 2009 Recovery Act expires in November 2013, 3Squares VT will see severe cuts.

"I'm certainly hoping to see that benefits remain in tact without any decrease to our families who need this to provide food for their families," Patricia Duda, Director of Food & Nutrition Programs, said.

The cuts would happen if the provisions in the federal farm bill, currently being dealt with fails to pass in Congress.

The farm bill deals with an array of issues including food supplement programs.

Action on the Farm Bill has been postponed until September.

For now, these programs are safe.

Congress and President Obama have until March 1 to work out a deal.
