'Tis getting to be that time of the year! The days are getting longer, the temps are creeping upward, and the maple sugarers are getting ready to produce that sweet golden syrup!
Sugaring season is underway with many local farmers having already tapped their trees and set up the lines to get their season underway. Vermont is the largest maple syrup producer in the entire United States, producing nearly 500,000 gallons of that sweet goodness per year.
The next few weeks will surely bring the true start to the season for many. As we turn the clock forward in about 2 weeks, the days will get longer and allow the temps to reach a little higher. The combination of warm, sunny days and cool nights is the best to get the sap flowing. Generally nights in the mid 20s and days in the lower 40s is perfect.
