ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -

A VT man was arrested for stealing knives at the St. Johnsbury Vermont State Police barracks early Sunday morning.

Police say while they were processing someone for DUI, they let the male passenger 26-year-old Anthony Cofrancesco, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., sit in the lobby. While they were processing, Cofrancesco was able to gain entry to a restricted portion of the barracks.

Police say he then took two knives and cut maps, magazine papers and desk tops.

Cofrancesco was arrested and lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $3,000 bail. He is being charged with burglary, theft, unlawful mischief and unlawful trespass.

Cofrancesco is due in court Monday.
