NYE MOUNTAIN, N.Y. -

Three men were rescued after their plane crashed near Big Burn Mountain in Essex County, N.Y. Thursday night.

Officials say Michael Oster, 54, Jeff O'Connor, 58, and Frank Dombroski, 51, all of Westfield, N.J. were located at around 2 a.m. Friday.

The men were evacuated by snowmobile to the Whiteface Inn Road Trailhead where they were evaluated by the Lake Placid Rescue Squad. A press release says the men were fine and they declined any further medical treatment or transport.

New York State Police are providing site security pending investigation by the FAA.

After the plane went down at around 6:30 p.m., rescue crews couldn't find the men on Nye Mountain because the coordinates they provided were not in the correct format. Once the coordinates were plotted in the correct format they realized the men didn't crash on Nye Mountain, but near Big Burn Mountain.

The Forest Rangers were able to reach the crash site by snowmobile via the Jack Rabbit Trail and bushwhacking on snowshoes the last half mile. The crash site was a mile from the road.

Forest Rangers involved in the search were: Lt. Charles Platt; Joe LaPierre, Scott VanLaer, Jim Giglinto, Kevin Burns, David Russell, Pete Evans, and Chris Kostoss.
