North Troy, VT -
State Route 105 proved just how slippery it is Thursday when an ambulance collided into a snow blower. No one was injured but it happened near a particularly windy, narrow section of road that's tough to plow.
"They call it the chute," VTrans District 9 maintenance manager Bill Jewell said.
That stretch of road was dropped down to one lane early Thursday.
Jewell says VTrans crews borrow the snow blower from a nearby airport to clear the chute because there's no place to push the snow.
"The conditions yesterday or last night and the wind and the snow it gets deposited into that valley section," Jewell said.
The dangerous roads and wintry conditions could also lead to a few less customers at restaurants nearby like Tastings in North Troy.
"We've closed a couple times and had a of cancellations due to weather," owner Jeff Weiss said.
Thursday night Weiss was still preparing for some vacationers at Jay Peak to come and enjoy his cuisine. Although some might cancel Weiss says in the long run more snow equals more business.
"The perception from people coming in is the conditions will be great and let's make a trip to Vermont," Weiss said.
But a trip down Route 105 could be impossible as the snow continues to fall.
Jewell says some roads could close and the snow blower would have to be pulled out to use one more time.
"Might have to do it all over again," Jewell said.
