BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

A former Vermont State Police trooper is convicted of assault charges.

A press release says, Eric Howley, of Wilmington, Vt., was convicted on 2 counts of simple assault Tuesday.

Howley was sentenced to serve concurrent terms of 6 to 12 months on each count. Special conditions of his probation include mental health counseling, that he not seek or accept employment as a police officer, law enforcement officer, security guard, or volunteer for such work, and that he not have contact with the victims.

A press release says charges stem from an incident where Howley was accused of injuring Anton Pike and Mark Ellison while on duty on April 8, 2012.

Howley was a trooper stationed in Brattleboro, Vt.
