SHELDON, Vt. -
Police responded to a double head on collision on Route 105 in Sheldon, Vt. Wednesday morning.
A press release says Lloyd Touchette, 66, of Enosburg, Vt., was driving a Ford Escort west on Route 105 when it lost control and slide sideways into oncoming traffic. Touchette then collided with a Toyota Camry driven by 60-year-old Francis McCarthy, of Fairfax, Vt.
Police say both occupants were trapped in the vehicles, they were extricated using the jaws of life. The Fire Department needed to remove the doors of the vehicles as well as the roof of the blue Ford Escort.
Both drivers were transported to the hospital. Touchette was transported to Fletcher Allen in Burlington, Vt. with head injuries. McCarthy was transported to Northwest Medical with minor injuries.
Lloyd Touchette is in critical condition, according to Mike Noble,
spokesperson at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
The road has been reopened in both directions.
This crash is still being investigated. Slick road conditions appear to be contributing factors. Police do not believe alcohol and drugs to be a factor in the crash.
Touchette is a selectboard member and the moderator for the town of Enosburg, Vt.
