WINDSOR, Vt. -

Vermont State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-91 northbound in Windsor, Vt. Wednesday morning.

A press release says 27-year-old C J Stevens, of Dehli, N.Y., lost control of his car and struck a guard rail. As Douglas Bennett, 52, of Springfield, Vt., was approaching the area he also spun out and struck the guard rail. A tractor trailer operated by Jan Fournier, 46, then lost control and crashed into Bennett's car. The tractor trailer also pushed Bennett's car into the back of the Windsor Fire Department's truck.

Police say one firefighter was injured while escaping from the area of the crash.

When another driver, Michel Drolet, 49, of Coaticook, Quebec, was passing through the area he was hit from behind by Duane Chamberlain, 32, of Windsor, Conn. Drolet's 2007 Volvo tractor with box trailer jacked knifed and struck Chamberlain's car and before coming to a stop struck the tractor trailer.

Bennett and Chamberlain were transported to Mt. Ascutney Hospital with minor injuries. The firefighter was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Interstate 91 northbound was closed between exits 8 and 9 for several hours, but is now open to traffic.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
