Shopping Smart For Presidents' Day Car Savings

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Drive down Route 7 in South Burlington Monday and you can't miss the balloons, the signs and other advertising on many cars.

Tools dealers use to help drive sales.

"January can be a slow month. Manufacturers want to get their year off well," said Burlington Autogroup General Manager Steve Kelson.

Kelson says that's where Presidents' Day comes into play.

His lot is full and he has plenty of deals to offer.

"We had a huge weekend. We actually opened up on Sunday, which we are normally closed," said Kelson.

The deals don't stop Monday, local dealers says they last through the end of the week.

Good news if you still want savings but there are some things you should know.

The Vermont Attorney's General office says the perk of buying new is there's no wear and tear and warranties.

But they're more expensive, and you lose value quicker.

As for used, they're cheaper and it doesn't depreciate as fast.

But some don't include warranties and there's little protection if it breaks down quickly.

Another piece of advice, say you're walking the lot and you happen to find a used car that you happen to like. a lot of places will not only let you get in it and take it for a test drive but you can bring it to a local mechanic to look it over before you make the big purchase.

Lastly, do your research.

Dealers say it's always helpful to come in and already have an idea of what you're looking for.

"I mean the internet is always a good place to start," said Kelson.
