TICONDEROGA, N.Y. -

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is announcing new federal legislation to help manufacturing in the North Country at International Paper in Ticonderoga, N.Y. Monday morning.

According to a press release, the bill will help create competition that encourages public and private partnerships to develop strategies to develop growth for local manufacturing industries.

"It's time to see 'Made In America' again starting right here in New York," said Senator Gillibrand.  "I believe New York's great manufacturing communities are well positioned to compete for funding that would help carry out their innovative ideas to spark more growth in high-tech manufacturing sectors, jumpstart new businesses, and create good-paying jobs right here where we need them the most."

More than 123,000 manufacturing jobs were lost since 2005 in New York state. A press release says an estimated 3,472 manufacturing jobs were lost from 2005 to 2010, including 225 from Essex County.

The bill would also train workers with the proper skills that the manufacturing companies need.
