VT Legislator Proposing Fines for Skiers & Snowboarders Who Need Rescuing

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

A Vermont legislator proposes fines for skiers who need rescuing.

Senator Kevin Mullin (R-Rutland District) proposed a bill which says skiers and snowboarders who go beyond designated trails and require rescue assistance could face a trespassing charge and a $500 fine.

The legislation comes after rescue crews needed to pull seven dozen people out of the woods in the Killington Ski Resort area this year.

Resort officials say it hasn't reviewed the particulars of this bill, but it supports a measure to pay the state and ski resorts for search and rescue efforts.
