Man Accused of Attempted Murder Changes His Plea - Makes Statement to Victim

Posted: Updated:

A man accused of trying to kill his ex-girlfriend 2 years ago told a Vermont court he *is* guilty.

23 year old Martin Morales changed his plea, admitting to assault, attempted kidnapping and attempted burglary.

Police say Morales wore a mask when he broke into his ex's home... beat, choked and stabbed her with a foot-long knife.

The woman escaped and told police she recognized Morales' voice.

ABC 22/FOX44 was there when he read his exclusive statement.

"I have no intention of denying, minimizing or excusing the senseless crime I committed against a person who showed me nothing but acceptance during our time together. I believe it would be unfair to her to subject her to the pain of reliving the crime through the courtesy of a trial," Martin Morales said.

Police say the victim had a restraining order against Morales.

He'll be sentenced in a couple of months and is facing up to 25 years in prison.

Morales told the judge he's being seen for mental health issues and is taking medication for psychosis.
