ALBANY, N.Y. -

New York Senators are discussing an eating disorder bill at the New York State House Wednesday.

Sen. Kemp Hannon, chairman of the New York state Senate's Standing Committee on Health, says she is hosting a round-table discussion to ensure that the state has a comprehensive system to address eating disorders.

The bill, S2530-2013, would establish an eating disorders awareness and prevention program and require screening students for eating disorders. According to the bill, the law would require the health certificates for attendance in public schools to include an assessment of the student for eating disorders by stating the student's BMI index and weight.

As of February 5, the bill was reported and committed to the finance committee.
