Former Vermont Treasurer Gets 18 Months for Embezzling

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

A former Vermont Treasurer gets 18 months for embezzling $80,000 from the Algiers Fire District.

A press release says Sherry Roebuck, 52, of Guilford, Vt. was accused of writing checks to herself and cashing them at local banks.

The embezzlement was discovered in March 2011, Roebuck resigned shortly thereafter.

Roebuck worked as a treasurer for the district between 2007 and 2011.

The court has ordered Roebuck to pay slightly less than $83,000 in restitution.

Roebuck will start her sentence on March 19.
