One Lane Reopened on VT Route 78, Crews Still Cleaning Up Overturned Tractor Trailer

ALBURGH, Vt. -

Route 78 has been reopened to a single lane. Police say several crews remain on scene and are still working to clear the tractor trailer that overturned early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release, the truck was driving between Route 2 to the Swanton side of Alburgh/Swanton Bridge in Alburgh, Vt. when the truck hit black ice causing it to slide off the road. The trailer then lost 50 gal barrels of poisonous ink.

Police say there isn't a threat to anyone living or traveling through that area.

A hazmat team is assisting crews in cleaning up the hazardous waste on the roadway.

"Several of the roads were covered with black ice, we had extremely slippery conditions and because we had the hazmat incident,  the situation was much worse," Tyler Gotshall, Fire Chief of the Alburgh Fire Department, said.

Traffic should find an alternate route for the duration of the morning as crews are expected to be at this location for several more hours.
