Vermont Baker Finishes 2nd in National Challenge

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Vermont woman might not be the Next Great Baker but Gretel-Ann Fischer did get to the final two in the TLC show competition.

On Monday, Fischer and her friends gathered to watch the season finale of the Next Great Baker.

The show puts contestants through various baking challenges.  The winner receives $100,000 and the chance to work in a New York bakery owned by cake boss Buddy Valastro.

"I'm feeling really good. I have a great plan ahead of me. You know finishing in the final two is a better scenario because I'm not under contract with Buddy so I can actually promote my business," says Fischer.

Fischer says the show and publicity has been a big boost to her business Cupp's Cafe in Winooski.

She says her eight-person staff has been busy baking cakes and the phone has already been ringing off the hook.
