Vt. Taxpayers Fronting the Bill to Help MA Dig Out From Snow

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

As Vermont helps Massachusetts dig out, green mountain state taxpayers are footing the hefty bill.

35 VTrans employees went down Sunday to help the Bay State clear nearly two feet of snow.

Agency leaders expect it to cost $250-thousand dollars.

Vermont will pick that up now, Massachusetts will pay it back later.

In the mean time, agency leaders say VTrans employees are putting in a lot of hours.

"Some were able to take a rest around midnight, some worked straight through until 6 [Monday] morning. So that by the time they finally got some rest [Monday], many of them had worked 48 straight hours," said VTrans Operations Director Scott Rodgers.

Right now the plan is to have the VTrans there for three more days.

But that could change depending on how quickly they get the roads clear.
