COLCHESTER, Vt. -
At Shaw's in Colchester, Vermont Monday employees rushed to restock shelves that were left bare by last week's east coast blizzard.
"Saturday wasn't very pretty," said Shaw's store director Marcel Marquis.
Although much of our area wasn't hit with two-plus feet of snow, the weather and driving bans in other New England states prevented trucks from reaching Vermont.
That left Shaw's and other area grocery stores including Hunger Mountain Coop in Montpelier in rough shape over the weekend.
"We were down to pretty much our minimum levels," said Hunger Mountain Coop General Manager Kari Bradley.
"No deliveries showed up Friday, no deliveries showed up Saturday," said Marquis.
Finally, trucks arrived late Sunday and Monday to both stores.
That allowed them to replenish most items, but you can still see empty tables and gaps in the milk and bread aisles which should be filled within the next few days.
Another store that had problems from the blizzard was Hannaford.
On Sunday there were signs up letting people know about the problems and on Monday the signs had been taken down and shelves have been restocked.
Although they've pretty much recovered, officials know during this time of year, problems can arise.
"We're kind of at the whim of whatever the weather dictates," said Bradley.
If you weren't able to get certain grocery items over the weekend, store officials say before you head out over the next few days its best call ahead to make sure the products are back in stock.
