Police: Cashier at Sears Robbed at Knife Point Monday Afternoon

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Quite the commotion in South Burlington, Vt. Monday afternoon as police searched for an armed robber.

It happened just after 1 p.m. at Sears in the University Mall.

Police say a white man, dressed and black and wearing a face mask, showed a knife to a cashier.

After the cashier handed over some money, the guy took off.

Police traced the man to the Anchorage Inn across the street. Police believe he was just passing through.

A detective says this is pretty rare.

"Retail thefts are pretty common, an actual armed robber coming up to a counter, no.  I don't think in the 7 years I've been here, I've heard of one," Ron Bliss, of the South Burlington Police Department, said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (802)-846-4111.
