Several cars were damaged Tuesday night while traveling over a bridge on I-89.
It happened in Colchester, Vt. in the northbound lane of the bridge over Bay Road.
According to VTrans, a portion of the bridge plate that runs across the top of the bridge came loose.
Police say a total of 7 vehicles that drove over the broken plate were damaged.
VTrans officials also acknowledge that they've had some problems with the join before and fixed it just last week.
"Last night it failed and it appeared that a car had gone over it and hit it and it had basically torn the plate what we call a bridge joint plate up and it was sticking up several inches," Dave Blackmore, District 5 Transportation Administrator, said.
VTrans says the bridge is completely safe to drive over and they plan to make a permanent fix in the spring.
