VT Bill Could Allow Breweries To Ship Beer In and Out of State

WATERBURY, Vt. -

A new piece of legislation could help Vermont breweries.

The bill would allow beer and wine to be shipped in and out of state.

Right now, that's not allowed.

Law makers say the increased number of sales could drive the local economy.

As for "The Alchemist" in Waterbury, new bill or not, they don't plan to change their exclusivity.

"There's a lot involved in paying sales tax and everything else, it just might not be the best fit for us, but I have some friends that own small breweries and it would be fantastic for them," John Kimmich, Alchemist Co-Owner said.

Right now, the bill only allows beer and wine to be shipped to a residence, but it could be revised to include retailers, which would only further economic growth.

40 states have similar legislation and would be allowed to receive Vermont beverages.
