SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The South Burlington City Council says ex-City Manager Sandy Miller was fired because of his "aggressive and confrontational style."
That was part of a statement that was released Tuesday. This comes after a vote Monday in which the council fired Miller, who had been placed on administrative leave.
The council says Miller is still entitled to a severance package, which includes him receiving his $117,000 salary, as well as benefits, for the next year.
In the statement, the council says it has received complaints from people in the community about Miller. Council members also say the relationship between them and Miller had become "strained."
Here's a statement from Sandy Miller to the statement released by the South Burlington City Council:
"I
have just read the Council's statement. I respect the right of the
Council to make a change in its City Manager even while I wonder about the
process they followed. I had hoped for
an amicable and professional parting of the ways.
While
City Councilors acknowledged by their vote last evening that they did not have
just cause to dismiss me, I am saddened that they
feel a need to justify their action (and the
costs thereof to the taxpayers of South Burlington) by blaming me for the
Council's own decisions, actions, policies and statements over the past two
years. The Council's statement "explaining" its decision to terminate is defamatory
and damaging to my professional reputation. It also speaks to how very
difficult it has been for me and members of my staff to work with this Council.
The
statement issued by the Council is a great disappointment to me."
