BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Fletcher Allen Health Care says a former patient was so happy with her care she donated a million dollars to the hospital.
Fletcher Allen says the patient wanted to honor her cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Frank Ittleman by creating a professorship at the UVM College of Medicine.
We're told the donor wants to remain anonymous.
But the hospital says she and a friend were both successfully treated recently by Ittleman.
"It's beyond nice. It's the wonderful gift we, as a team, and I have received as a surgeon. Although patients doing well is a big gift to me also," says Ittleman.
Ittleman says the money will be a big boost for his division, the hospital, and the community.
That's because the million dollars will help the hospital and the college attract and keep a nationally recognized cardiothoracic surgeon in the future.
