Assault at Nectar's in Burlington

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Nectar's Bar in Burlington was the arena for a fight early Sunday morning involving 27 year old Nicholas Bermudez of Burlington.

"Crowded bar scene, people dancing, people pushing. So the investigation still continues to find out more of the specifics. But during some point on the dance floor a disturbance broke out," Sgt. Jason Lawson of the Burlington Police Department said.

Around 1 A.M. police say Bermudez got into a fight with a 29 year old Colchester resident. After Bermudez made unwanted advances at his wife. What Bermudez started, he finished by smashing the victim over the head with a beer bottle giving the man significant injuries to his head and arm.

"The individuals who received injuries were treated at Fletcher Allen and released," Sgt. Lawson said.

Bermudez was arrested for aggravated assault and held on $25,000 bail.

Don't expect to see the suspect in downtown Burlington anytime soon either. Bermudez is banned from the area while his case is resolved as ordered by court.

"Any type of assault is a serious incident and it's nice to see they look at it as a significant incident," Sgt. Lawson said.

Police say a 27 year old South Burlington resident, who had no association with the first victim, was also struck by a beer bottle at Nectar's during the fight by an unidentified man.

Police are hoping that anyone with info on the incident will help them with the investigation by calling them at 802-540-2292.
