MONTPELIER, Vt. -

A new gun bill was proposed at the Vermont State House Tuesday.

According to the Vermont Journal of the House the bill, H-124, proposes various restrictions on firearms and is being sent to the Judiciary committee.

The legislation would prohibit the manufacture, possession, or transfer of large capacity ammunition devices, require background checks at gun shows, require reporting of mental health issues to a national background check system, and require a safety course for individuals who wish to carry a concealed weapon.

The bill was sponsored by Reps. Waite-Simpson of Essex, Greshin of Warren, Mrowicki of Putney, Ancel of Calais, Clarkson of Woodstock, Cole of Burlington, Cross of Winooski, Deen of Westminster, Martin of Springfield, Ram of Burlington, Stevens of Waterbury and Yantachka of Charlotte.

A gun control bill proposed by Sen. Philip Baruth, a Chittenden County Democrat, was withdrawn January 21 citing the bill had little support in Montpelier.
