BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A Shelburne man was charged Tuesday with animal cruelty after authorities say he neglected three horses on his farm.

George Wilson, 63, pleaded not guilty in court to one count of animal cruelty.

According to court documents, police were called to his farm two weeks ago to help state and local animal officials, who were trying to take the horses.

Documents say the horses, which were fenced in, were standing in nearly six inches of manure. The ‘horses hooves were over grown to the point they were curling up with the longest ones being nearly a foot long,' documents said.

Following Tuesday's arraignment, Wilson spoke calmly to the media saying he's taking it one step at a time.

"There is a lot more in this matter and we will address it as this goes along," said Wilson.

Chittenden County State's Attorney TJ Donovan said Wilson's wife could also face charges.

Fox44 will have much more on this story Tuesday at 6 p.m. & 7 p.m. on ABC22 and at 10 p.m. on Fox44.
