Snow Creates Difficult Driving Conditions

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Crews will be busy clearing the roads for the Tuesday morning commute.

There were lots of slide offs and crashes around the region Monday.

"It's a slow snowstorm," says Dave Blackmore, VTrans District 5 & 8 Administrator.

On an I-89 on-ramp, we caught one of what was many drivers who went off the road.

Across the area, the snow created some pretty slippery and icy driving conditions.  Blackmore says super cold roads were to blame.

"We are treating things but things are refreezing," says Blackmore.

That will mean more salt and more overtime for plow crews.  Blackmore says so far this season in his district they've spent about $1-million or half the winter maintenance budget.

"It's kind of tapering off to be a normal season for us," says Blackmore.

Of course Blackmore warns you never know what the rest of the season will be like.  That's why he hopes drivers continue to be cautious.

"It's easy to forget because we've had a week of relatively good weather, we ask that everyone slow down, give themselves a little more wiggle room," says Blackmore.
