Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Public hearings have been scheduled for this week in Montpelier on a controversial bill that would allow suicide assistance.

The right-to-die legislation would allow physicians to prescribe a lethal dose of medications to terminally ill patients who wish to take their own lives.

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin is in support of the bill.

Hearings begin Tuesday at the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier in the House Chamber. They are scheduled to take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. People will be given two minutes to testify.

Sign-up begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday outside the House Chamber.
