SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
South Burlington police were investigating potential drug possession and prostitution in hotels and motels in when they were notified by a South Burlington lodging staff person Saturday night of some suspicious behavior in one of their rooms.
"One of the hotels last night mentioned one of their rooms had a bunch of traffic in and out," South Burlington Police Detective Ron Bliss said.
Police arrested 25-year-old Courtney Samplatsky after she lied about who she was to police and denied them entrance to her room. the Rutland resident also had three drug related warrants out for her arrest. Police won't say which hotel or motel she was staying at.
"All the hotels have been very cooperative and we'd like to keep that cooperation," Bliss said.
Though police wouldn't say where the arrest happened they did say they are now regularly checking with all hotel and motel managers to see if there's been any suspicious activity.
"We've kind of phased it in slowly and now more and more officers are getting involved and getting up to speed on it and moving forward," Bliss said.
South Burlington police say their growing patrol is because of an increasing issue at hotels and motels.
"It's been a growing problem some of it we think is related to prostitution hence why those officers are going out on a nightly basis checking with the hotels throughout the city," Bliss said.
Bliss also said say they've made several arrests recently while investigating drug use and prostitution at local hotels but it doesn't always lead to charging people with either.
"We have not found them engaged in the prostitution but we have removed them from the hotels at the hotels request," Bliss said.
Samplatsky does not face any charges now in relation to prostitution but is being held at Chittenden County Correctional Center on active warrants and providing false information to a police officer.
