Red Cross Training Volunteers

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Red Cross of Vermont and the Upper New Hampshire Valley is training perspective volunteer responders.

Sunday trainees helped break down a shelter at Burlington's Champlain Elementary School. People learning to volunteer for the Red Cross take emergency response courses to know how to best help other people in case of a disaster. Red Cross volunteers have to respond to a fire or emergency at a moment's notice so we asked a volunteer why they want to join.

"I have a passion for working with people, it's what I do in my day job, so I thought what better to do with my spare time. And as well as I want to be prepared in a disaster so I figured if I took the training I'm also prepared on a personal level," Red Cross trainee Sara Rutinhira said.
