In the darkest hours of Friday morning, fire swept through this large building at 263 Station Street.
It house a boat maker, a bakery, an oil company, and a taxi service.
Firefighters struggled all morning in a scene that bordered on the surreal. They fought high and low rotation crews from Lake Placid and a dozen other fire companies
For eight hours all they could do was surround and drown the fire. No getting inside. All the water lines had to be kept running..If they were shut off they'd freeze and become useless.
No one was hurt, but many people were knocked out of business and at least temporarily their jobs.
