GEORGIA, Vt. -
A packaging line that took years and millions of dollars to develop was put on display Friday.
Perrigo, which makes infant formula, hopes the machine will not only grow the business, but create new jobs.
They also created plastic tubes that use a spoon that keeps hands out of the product, instead of cans.
The company devised a $29-million dollar machine that can pump out a lot of it.
Friday, Governor Peter Shumlin and other leaders toured the facilities.
Right now the Franklin County plant employs nearly 400 people and with the new line, they hope to increase that number.
"We feel really good about the future and for the business as we continue to grow as we look forward to the next 5 to 10 years," said Perrigo Executive VP Scott Jamison.
To help prepare its employees to use the new machine, Vermont gave the company grant money to help train them.
It took the company more than three years to create the new line.
