BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -

A New Hampshire man who pleaded guilty to grand larceny stemming from a holdup at a Vermont bank has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Police had identified 31-year-old Gerald Clough of Swanzey, N.H., in the February 2012 robbery of the People's United Bank in Bellows Falls. He and another man did not display a weapon. The man and a woman arrested in the case await trial.

Clough was jailed in New Hampshire at the time on an unrelated charge when he was arrested.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports in court Thursday Judge David Suntag combined what could have been a longer sentence with a long probationary period and intensive drug addiction treatment. He heard testimony from Clough's mother and a state trooper that Clough can change his life.
