LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -

Firefighters are battling a fire in Lake Placid, N.Y. Friday morning.

Lake Placid Assistant Fire Chief, Tracy LaHart said they are currently drowning the building with water to get the hot spots out. There was heavy spoke and flames when the fire started around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The building is being considered a total loss and housed Cake Placid, Placid Boat Works and Rick's Taxis.

"I came rushing back and I saw flames flying out of the office," Jared Nye, taxi driver at Ricks Taxis, said.

FOX44 and ABC22 photographer Darin Boutet reports that with temperatures around -10, the water is freezing up so firefighters have to keep everything circulating. The cold weather isn't impacting their abilities to put out the fire, LaHart said, but they have to keep rotating crews to keep everyone warm.

12 fire departments responded to the fire.
