BURLINGTON, Vt. -

A 30-year-old Vermont man is going to prison for seven years after being convicted on charges he tried to trade drugs for a firearm in Burlington.

Kareem Campbell was sentenced Thursday.

Campbell was arrested last March after a confidential informant acquired a handgun for him that he paid for with 4.5 grams of cocaine and $50. Campbell was arrested immediately afterward.

Law enforcement agents recovered the .40 caliber Glock pistol, about $1,317 in cash, and more than 12 grams of marijuana.

He reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in September.

Prosecutors say Campbell told investigators he had been acquiring distribution quantities of cocaine from a source in the Winooski area after he was released from prison in June 2011.
