NEWPORT, Vt. -
Newport Police are searching for a male who demanded methadone from a receptionist at the BARRT Methadone Clinic on Union Street in Newport, Vt. Wednesday.
Police say the subject was armed and did display a weapon. The suspect fled on foot without obtaining anything. Police were tracking the male, but lost him.
The male is described as being 5'4" - 5'6" tall, wearing a dark colored winter jacket, blue jeans, tan colored boots, black gloves and a black winter hat with a black face covering.
Police say as a precaution they put nearby establishments on lock down including the North Country Union High School, North Country Hospital and North Country Elementary School.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newport City Police Department at 802-334-6733.
