Vermont Considers Expanding Energy Efficiency Program

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

There's talk of expanding a program that began more than a decade ago in Vermont.

The state's been taxing your electric bill to pay for a statewide energy efficiency program.

Because it's  been regarded a success there's a push to apply the same principle to home heating.

The idea is drawing opposition from business groups and lawmakers.

A recent report from the Department of Public Service estimates in order to raise $30 million to expand weatherization programs a 12 cent tax could be added on every gallon of oil.
